Efdemin’s first artist album was by many considered to be one of the best records of 2007, which means that Phillip Sollmann has already had one successful debut in his career. The shade of his productions – despite the fact the artist forms in the widely comprehended techno genre – is, however, slightly different from what he’s been presenting as a DJ, therefore the idea of him making a compilation doesn’t surprise me at all.
If the number of listens were a deciding factor, then ‘Carry On - Pretend We’re Not in the Room’ would already be one of the best records of the year for me. Although there aren't any tracks that make your knees tremble, Efdemin’s album has a kind of magnetism against which I don't even try fighting. On the record, despite many declamations, there are literally a few themes I’m able to remember and hum. The main engine here is percussion, namely, the hellishly fast hats and conjured in the urging staccato snares that have been mercilessly bombarding my mind for the last couple of weeks. And the only question I have is whether it will it ever end? Maybe, but only when I finally come to know what those nuns are supposed to drop over Puerto Escondido!
